Introduction to Me

Hello!

My name is Asaleigh but most of my friends and family call me Ace. I'll respond to either so feel free to chose either one. I grew up in Bend Oregon and moved here for school. I miss home sometimes but enjoy the experience I am gaining by being in Oklahoma. To switch it up I thought I would give a couple fun facts for my introduction.

One is that I am fluent in American Sign Language. I started my freshman year in high school and have continued learning and using it through today. I plan on getting my interpreting license after graduating in December from the College of Arts and Sciences here at OU. I enjoy it more than any other hobby I have and plan on improving this skill for the rest of my life. I am also currently in a sign language class so I can stay on top of my skills.

Another cool fact is that I recently got another puppy. He is a black lab and is now 10 months old. I also have an almost 2-year-old girl who is Husky and Blue Heeler mix. They keep me busy and on my toes at all times. Her name in Lucca and is the sweetest little thing you will ever meet and his name is Gunner and he is a clumsy little guy. I say little but he is really already over 100 pounds. I will try and keep updates on them throughout the semester.

Hope you enjoyed a few fun facts and can not wait to learn more about all of you. I am excited to experience this class and the new idea of blogging. If you want to know more feel free to ask! I am an open book and will attempt to answer everything.

  1. Hi Ace, I hope you like Oklahoma! I’ve been in Oklahoma all my life, and I can’t imagine going so far away from all my family and friends! Good for you, I’m sure leaving must have been hard.
Wow, you know sign language!? That’s amazing! What made you want to learn it? It’s great that you’ve been so consistent and now you’re fluent!

  2. Ace, this is such a cool coincidence: I am working my way through the introductions in time order, and just a few minutes ago, literally, a friend of mine online shared an ASL video - have you seen this one? It is about cursing and swear words in ASL, and it is so fun and informative; I will be sharing it in the class announcements at some point for sure: Deaf People Teach Us Bad Words. You are the first student I've met at OU who has studied ASL and I think it is wonderful that you will be pursuing that as a future career. And the pictures of your dogs are so cute: everybody needs some puppy energy in their lives! Maybe he can inspired some dog stories in the semester to come. There were not so many dogs in the world of the Indian Epics... but of course there are lots in the world of mythology and folklore from other countries! :-)

  3. Hi Ace! The North West is cool, the furthest I have been is San-Fran in Cali. I have always wanted to go to Oregon. I hear the hiking is unreal! New dogs are always an excellent thing! I have 2 dogs myself and they keep me pretty busy, but I love them to death and would not trade them for anything! Sign language is interesting, and that will sure come in handy.

  4. Hey Ace! Such a cool nick-name for sure. Anyways being an avid pupper lover, I of course died when I saw your two adorable pups. I know how they can be rotten sometimes and keep you busy but they are definitely worth all the work. I hope you continue to enjoy living and experiencing Oklahoma and all it has to offer you.

  5. Hi Ace! What a cool nick name? I love both of your dogs. I wish I had more time to own a dog but college seem to take up most of it, so props to you for owning 2 dogs. That is really cool that you are from Oregon. I have visited Portland when I was younger and really liked it. Have a nice semester!

  6. Hi Ace! I can't image going from Oregon to Oklahoma, that is a heck of a change of scenery. That's such a cool major! I'm sure that it will be a very rewarding degree field for you! I really miss having a dog after looking at the pics you posted, they look really nice. I would love to visit Portland sometime! Especially after watching Portlandia on Netflix, I am really curious to see how accurate the show is. I hope all goes well with class this semester!!

  7. Cannot believe that we're in another class together, Ace! This is so cool! I knew that you were fluent in ASL, which is cool, because I'm totally working on it myself! Your dogs are literally the cutest things and I wish I could boop their noses! Can't wait to see where this class takes us, and I can't wait to hear more from you!

  8. Hi Ace!
It isn't every day I meet someone named Ace, I think that is a really cool name even if it is just a nickname! It's really awesome that you are fluent in ASL, and being an interpreter must be extremely rewarding! I have never been to Oregon but every picture I have seen is absolutely beautiful and I definitely want to visit someday! I love your dogs, they are actually the cutest!

  9. Hello Ace! Your name sounds awesome really. It is cool that you are an expert in ASL and I am glad that you like it a lot. You are all the way from Oregon and move here for school, that is super admirable because I am from Tulsa and even though I am only 2 hours away from home, I feel homesick a lot. Your puppies are adorable. It is nice to meet you Ace!

  10. Hi Asaleigh,
I really enjoyed reading your introduction and I really liked how you included pictures of your dogs. They are so cute! I think it’s so cool that you are fluent in American Sign Language and that you want to get your interpreting license. Also, congratulations on graduating in December! I hope your having a wonderful semester so far and I’m looking forward to reading your blog!

  11. Hi Ace! I can't imagine being so far away from home for school. I'm from Waco, Texas and sometimes I feel like that's even too far so Oregon would be a completely different story. I also love your passion for sign language, that's something that I've always wanted to learn and I hope to get around to it eventually! Congratulations on your upcoming graduation. I hope you are enjoying your final semester here at OU.

  12. Hi Ace!

That is so cool that you are getting to continue on doing what you love as your career! At my elementary school, they taught everyone the alphabet as well as generic gestures that I am so thankful for. It's truly amazing watching interpreters sign for those hard of hearing as it removes such a large barrier from the lives of many.
Also, your pups are adorable! I have some big dogs that I also call little on top of them being called puppies for life. There's nothing better!

    So nice to meet you!

  14. Hi Ace! Your dogs are so cute. Seriously, my favorite part of reading introduction posts is seeing everyone's pets! I hope Oklahoma is treating you well. I know the weather can be a bit interesting. It is so cool that you are fluent in ASL! I have always wanted to learn. It was great meeting you and good luck with the rest of the semester.

  15. Hi Asaleigh! That is so cool that you are fluent in sign language and that you continue to use it because languages are so easy to lose if you don’t keep practicing. That’s so exciting that you got a puppy, labs are so smart! Your lab and husky are absolutely adorable! I love them so much! I can see why they keep you on your toes, they are so energetic.

  16. Hi Ace! How exactly did you get your nickname Ace? I think that's super cool! Anyways, wow I am so inspired by you being fluent in sign language. It's also really awesome that you're taking classes to stay on top of it. I honestly should have done that with Spanish, as I don't remember a lot of it due to testing out of it. The fact that you got a puppy is adorable! I also admire your ability to take care of a puppy with your school schedule. I feel like that is something I would struggle with since I am always so busy. I really enjoyed getting to know more about you! I am looking forward to reading your stories, and getting to know you more! Good luck with the rest of your semester! You're halfway done!!!

  17. Hey Ace! It's nice to meet you. I hope you're enjoying your time here in Oklahoma! I think it's awesome that you're fluent in sign language. What made you want to learn it? Your dogs are so cute!! I hope to get a dog in the future when I'm done with all my school. I've always wanted one but never really gotten the opportunity. I feel like I wouldn't be able to give it my full attention with school and everything else going on. Good luck with your semester!

  18. Hey there Ace! Wow that is awesome that you are fluent in sign language! I just know English and German but I would love to learn sign language sometime! I love your dogs. I want to get a husky/wolf mix whenever I have the time and space that they need to be loved. I know this is a hard part of the semester with all the mid terms and stuff going on and hope you are hanging in there well! Best of luck!

  19. Welcome to Oklahoma Ace! Well a late welcome haha. I am originally from California and miss the west coast everyday. Sign language is a good skill to have. Even with advances in hearing products and such there will always be a need for it. Congratulations on hopefully graduating this semester. Thinking of staying in the Sooner state or moving on somewhere else? Beautiful fur babies by the way.

  20. Hey there, Ace!

I hope you are enjoying your final semester here at OU! Time has flown by so fast since I got here, and the approaching graduation is definitely bitter sweet. I hope you have had a great time being in Oklahoma. I think it is really awesome that you can use sign language! That is an incredible skill that will be very useful for you in the future. Have a great semester!

  21. Hi, Asaleigh! I have always found Sign Language to be interesting and I have always wanted to learn it, but I just never got around to learning it or setting some time aside to start. I wish you luck on getting that license, by the way. Gunner and Lucca are adorable and I am looking forward to hose updates. Hope you enjoy the rest of you semester.

  22. Hey Ace, I hope your semester is going well. That's a really cool nickname by the way! Also, coming from someone who was born and raised in Tulsa, welcome to Oklahoma! I hope you enjoy your time here. I think its awesome that you have learned and became fluent and sign language. I am sure that will take you a lot of places as life goes on. In addition, congrats on the upcoming graduation! Coming from a fellow senior, I hope you finish strong! Nice to meet you!

  23. Hi Ace,

I love that name. Everyone calls me "Zig" because of my last name so its always good meeting people with a cool nickname as well. I am originally from Tulsa so I don't know what it feels like to move half way across the country but it seems like you are enjoying Oklahoma. The pace is a bit slower so im sure you enjoy that. I hope the rest of your semester goes well and you end on a good note!

  24. Hi Ace!
I think it so cool that you are fluent in sign language! What a neat way to be able to communicate! Also, your puppies are SO cute! I am a big dog person so I love seeing pictures of other people's fur babies. Oregon is definitely a long way to go! What made you choose OU? I'm glad you are enjoying your time here!

  25. Hi Ace! I've never met anyone else who knows ASL! I was so excited when OU started offering sign language classes but I haven't taken one yet because I had already done two semesters of Spanish but I plan on taking one soon. I'm glad you want to get your interpreting license and are so passionate about ASL. Your dogs are super cute and I bet they are a real handful! Good luck with the rest of your last semester here at OU!

  26. Hello, Ace!
How cool that you are from Bend! That must have been a very strange change of pace, starting in the Pacific Northwest and ending up in the middle of the Great Plains. I have actually had the opportunity to travel to Bend, Oregon, before. A friend’s mom lives in Bend, and we went up over New Year’s last year to explore the town and snowboard for a little bit. There are so many cool breweries in Bend! I thought it was beautiful, and I plan on returning some day. Anyways, nice to meet you!

  27. Hi Ace!

It is a pleasure to meet you! I think it is really cool that you are fluent in ASL. I have always wanted to learn it, and after reading your introduction, I just might!
I think it is really awesome that you have two dogs as well. That another thing that I have always wanted to get into, and that is to get a dog!

    Good luck with the semester!

  28. Hi Ace! I'm so glad I found your blog, because your dogs are adorable and just the pick-me-up that I needed to power through some more homework! I think it's super cool that you're fluent in ASL. I've been trying to learn for a while, but it's not easy to teach yourself (or maybe I just need to put in a bit more effort). I was super excited that OU added Sign Language courses this year. I hope I get to take one soon!

  29. Hi Asaleigh!

Your dogs are so cute! I am thinking about getting one soon, and your pictures really make me want to just do it! I have family up in Oregon and Washington, and I think it’s just so beautiful up there! It was really awesome to read your introduction and I am excited to read the rest of your blog!

  30. Hey Ace! I think that it is so cool that you are from Oregon. I have always wanted to visit Oregon and see the amazing, lush forests that you have there. That is also great that you are fluent in American Sign Language. I have always thought that people who can sign are so talented. How you can memorize all the signs and then sign so quickly is completely beyond me!

  31. Hi Ace!
I can't believe that you're all the way from Oregon! I wonder what made you want to move to Oklahoma for school because you know there's not really much here. Although, it's great that you've enjoyed your time here on campus and in the state. I've always wanted to learn sign language, but have never had the extra time to.

  32. Hi Ace!
Nice to meet you. Welcome to Oklahoma. I hope you are enjoying your time here! Your dogs look and sound very cute and loving. I also have dogs and they give meaning to my days. Why did you first decide to begin to learn American Sign Language? Do you plan on being an interpreter full time or are you just getting your license for fun? It was nice learning about you.

  33. Hi Ace! So cool to get to know you a little bit here. That's amazing that you're fluent in ASL — I know OU's ASL classes just started this year, and I wish I weren't already minoring in another language! Also, your puppies are beautiful — thank you for sharing them here! I recently started living with a dog this year for the first time (my roommate has one) and she is so wonderful that I see what I've been missing all these years! I hope you have a wonderful dead week and good luck on all your finals!

  34. Hi Ace! I'm glad I got to read your introduction before the end of the semester. It's awesome that you're fluent in American Sign Language — I bet that'll be so valuable to you after you graduate, no matter what you study! Also, your dogs are precious. My family had a big black lab-Catahoula mix up until last year, and he was just such a sweet, goofy guy. Your lab reminded me of him! Hope you have a great rest of your semester!

  35. Hi Ace! Glad I got to "meet you" before the class ended! It's so cool that you're originally from Oregon, I hope you've enjoyed it here at OU! That is so cool that you are fluent in sign language and that you're continuing to perfect the skill! Do you think you are wanting to do that professionally or just a hobby? Thank you for providing us all with these sweet pics of your doggies!! We all need more dogs in our life! Hope you have a great rest of your semester and good luck with finals!!

  36. Hey Ace!
Great to finally meet you! I think that your dogs are great! If i could get a dog right now I would, but I just do not have the time. You are so close to graduating! like two weeks left so congrats on that! I think that it is cool that you are fluent in sign language, that would really be a great thing to be fluent in because it can be difficult to communicate sometimes. Hope your finals go well!
